Olde Bellevue Heritage Hotel
The Old (Main) Bellevue Hotel at Darjeeling was established on or around 1872, (it is well documented in survey maps dating back to 1887) and represents the best of colonial Raj architecture. It was owned by an English lady until 1942 when it was bought by the present owners' family who have held it now for 3 generations. All the rooms come with attached toilets and showers with running hot and cold water and cable TV. The hotel has been consistently referred to and recommended by various guides such as the Le Guide du Routard, and Lonely Planet. It hosts a number of group tours including motor-cycle and bicycle tours as well as "dragoman-style" coach tours and meditation, and other (mainly Buddhist) teaching camps. It comprises the heritage wing as well as a modern new wing with Swiss – chalet style architecture with a sloping roof, sun deck and viewing gallery, plenty of natural light and excellent views of the Himalayas. The hotel is very centrally located on The Mall, Chowrasta which is the tourist centre of Darjeeling. Look for an arched concrete gate/signboard reading Main Old Bellevue Hotel since 1872.
